Competitor tracking

AI competitor tracking. Who AI recommends instead of you.

See which brands the assistants recommend when they leave you out. A brand that beats you on two or more questions in a scan joins your list on its own.

Only questions that do not use your name are counted, because a question with your name in it almost always gets you named. Share is out of those 40 answers.

Why your own list is not enough

The competitors you know are not always the ones an assistant names. An assistant reads guides, reviews and lists from across the web, and it can recommend a brand you have never heard of. It can also recommend a big brand from a nearby category that you would never have listed.

A tracked brand is easy to count, because the scan knows to look for it. A brand nobody listed is invisible to every chart until something adds it. That is the job of this feature.

A BUYER'SQUESTIONTHEASSISTANTTHEANSWERYOURBRAND
A question goes in, and the brand names in the answer are found. The scan finds names it was given, so a rival nobody listed needs another way in.

How a brand joins your list

It starts from the losses, not from a list. Each lost answer is read with no names in front of the reader, so it can name a brand nobody expected.

  1. Every answer that names a competitor and not you is a loss for that question.
  2. Agentcites reads each loss and names the one brand the answer recommended, if there is one.
  3. It counts how many separate questions each brand won in this scan. Four assistants winning the same question count once.
  4. A brand that won two or more questions is added to your list.
  5. From the next scan on, that brand is counted in every figure that compares you with the field.

Two wins is the bar. One win can be chance. Two separate questions is a pattern.

An example of the rule

The numbers in this section are made up to show how the rule works. They are not from a real scan.

Brand A won three questions. Each question counts once, however many assistants named Brand A on it.

Drawn as bars, the bar of two is easy to see. Brands A, B and C cleared it. Brand C was already on the list, so only A and B are new.

In the made-up scan, three brands won two questions or more.

In a crowded category the field can be wide and thin. Many brands each win one question, and none clears the bar. That is a finding too. It means no single rival owns the answers yet.

What you see on the screen

The Competitors screen, on its Brands tab, lists every brand the assistants named or picked as the winner of a question you lost, one to a row. Each row keeps two counts apart: how many answers to questions that do not name you named the brand, and how many of your lost questions it won. Brands that are not on your list are marked, and you can filter to them.

Open a brand and a panel lists the questions you lost to it, the questions whose answers named it, and the websites cited in those answers. Each website opens on the other tab, which lists every website the answers cited.

The Overview shows the same field topic by topic: how often each brand was named on the questions that do not name you.

  • Your competitor list is in Settings, under "Who we compare you with". The brands you added yourself are marked as yours.

  • Every loss names its winner, so you can open the answer and read why it was picked.

  • Share of voice and citation figures count the found brands from the next scan on.

What it does not do

  • It never guesses a website address for a found brand. A wrong address would credit someone else’s pages to them, so it stays blank until it is known.

  • It never takes a brand off the list, even one no assistant names. You can remove it yourself in Settings.

  • It does not add up wins across scans. A brand that wins one question every week is never added on its own. If you see the same name week after week, add it yourself.

  • It does not ask you before adding a brand. A wrong name is one click to remove. A missing rival is invisible to every chart.

Answers from the assistants your buyers use

Each question goes to each assistant you choose, with web search on, the way a buyer would ask it.

Questions

How does Agentcites find my AI competitors?

It reads every answer you lose and names the brand the assistant recommended instead. A brand that wins two or more of your questions in one scan joins your competitor list.

Why two questions and not one?

One win can be chance. In a crowded category, many brands can each win a single question in one scan. Two separate questions is the smallest count that looks like a pattern.

Can I add competitors myself?

Yes. You check the suggested list before the first scan, and you can add or remove a brand at any time in Settings.
