The sources behind an AI answer
Open any answer and see every link it gave, numbered the way the answer numbers them. Each one is marked as your site, a competitor's site, or another site.
Being linked to and being named are counted separately. An answer can name you without linking to you, or link to you without naming you, as this one does.
Your website against your competitors
Your citation rate is the share of answers that linked to at least one page of yours. Beside it is the share that linked to at least one competitor's page. Both show the count and the total, and both are tracked scan by scan.
If none of your competitors' pages can be matched yet, no competitor figure is shown, rather than a zero.
Which websites AI assistants cite most
See which websites appear most often as sources across all your questions, and whether each is yours, a competitor's or another site. Open one to find the answers that cited it, the questions involved, and which brands those answers named.
A website that appears beside a brand did not necessarily cause that brand to be named, and the screen says so.
Know when an assistant first cites your new page
If you publish a page from an Agentcites draft and record where it went live, the owners and admins of your account get one email the first time an assistant links to it. The email names the page and how many answers cited it. It is sent once per page.
How a link is matched
Each link is matched by the website it points to.
- Your website. A link to your site, or to a subdomain of it, counts for you.
- Tracked competitors. A link to the website of a competitor you track counts for that competitor.
- Other or unresolved sources. Review sites, guides, forums and brands you do not track are shown by their website name but not counted for any brand. So is a link whose destination cannot be read.
What citation tracking cannot tell you
A citation means the assistant linked to a page. It does not prove that the page caused a brand to be recommended.
Some links, mostly from Gemini, go through a redirect address. Agentcites can often still tell which website it is, but not which page, so the citation email cannot fire for those links.
Only the competitors you track are matched. A rival you have not added appears as another site until you add it.

What is the difference between a mention and a citation?
A mention is your name in the answer. A citation is a link to your page. Agentcites counts them separately, because each can happen without the other.
Why are most links not matched to a brand?
Assistants mostly link to reviews, guides and lists written by other people. You still see each of those websites by name. They are not counted for a brand unless they belong to one you track.
Can I see the exact pages an assistant cited?
Yes. Every link is kept with the answer it came from. Some Gemini links are redirects that hide the exact page, though the website is often still known.
