In short
The AI Visibility Toolkit Semrush sells is a separate subscription of $99 a month per domain on yearly billing, with 25 tracked prompts and six reports, including a site audit for AI readiness. Its Semrush One bundles add 50 to 200 tracked prompts alongside the SEO tools, from $199 a month. A dedicated tool usually tracks more prompts per brand, covers more assistants, and in some cases writes content, while the suite keeps AI and classic search in one place you may already pay for.
We make Agentcites, a dedicated tool. To keep the comparison fair, we describe the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit only from Semrush's own pricing and help pages, quote them where it matters, and compare by criteria rather than by verdict. Every page is linked under Sources, read on 10 October 2026.
What is the AI Visibility Toolkit Semrush sells?
It is an add-on to the Semrush platform that shows how brands appear in AI answers. Semrush's help centre describes it this way: "The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit shows you how brands appear in AI-generated answers, helping you measure a new layer of visibility beyond traditional search." In short, it is AI answers added to an SEO suite.
The help centre lists six parts. Each one is quoted below in Semrush's own words.
- Visibility Overview: "Get a benchmark of any brand's overall presence in AI search".
- Competitor Research: "See how AI platforms position your competitors compared to your brand".
- Prompt Research: "Discover and prioritize AI search topics to target".
- Brand Performance: "Understand how AI platforms perceive your brand against competitors".
- Prompt Tracking: "Monitor your visibility for specific, high-value prompts".
- AI Search Site Audit: a check of your website for technical issues that might stop AI bots reading it.
Two of those parts are unusual. Visibility Overview works for any domain, so you can look at a competitor without setting anything up. Prompt Research draws on a large shared database of prompts, which a tool that only asks your own questions cannot offer.
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit pricing
The toolkit on its own costs $99 a month per domain on yearly billing, with 25 tracked prompts. It also comes inside the Semrush One bundles, which combine SEO and AI visibility, from $199 a month.
The toolkit tracks 25 prompts a day, and the largest Semrush One bundle tracks 200.
AI prompts tracked daily on each Semrush plan that lists a number. The toolkit costs $99 a month per domain on yearly billing. The three bundles cost $199, $299 and $549 a month on monthly billing.

| Plan | Monthly price | Billed yearly | AI prompts tracked daily | Websites for SEO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI Visibility Toolkit | See note | $99 per domain | 25 | Not stated |
| Semrush One Starter | $199 | $165.17 | 50 | 5 |
| Semrush One Pro+ | $299 | $248.17 | 100 | 15 |
| Semrush One Advanced | $549 | $455.67 | 200 | 40 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom, large scale | Unlimited projects |
The help centre gives the toolkit price as "$99 per month" and says it "does not currently offer a free trial". The pricing page gives $99 a month per domain, billed yearly. Ask Semrush which applies to you.
Extra users start at $45 a month, and report add-ons cost $10 or $20 a month. The SEO plan at $139 a month includes "Track performance in AI search" and "Monitor custom prompts", and a free plan lists "AI Visibility features" with one demo project. The toolkit alone allows 300 daily queries in its AI reports and 10 CSV exports a day of up to 1,000 rows each.
So the real price depends on what you already pay. If you have no Semrush plan, the cheapest listed route to tracked AI prompts is the toolkit at $99 a month per domain on yearly billing. If you already pay for Semrush and need more than 25 prompts, a Semrush One bundle may cost less than the toolkit plus a dedicated tool.
Where the toolkit's data comes from
Semrush says it captures answers from real requests to the assistants, not through their APIs, and that its figures are directional. Both points are in its own help page on data sources.
In Semrush's words: "Prompt responses are captured from real requests and not via any APIs of LLMs." The help page also says the toolkit uses "over 317 million prompts and responses on ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and AI Mode", across 117 regional databases. Prompt data updates daily on a rolling basis, Prompt Tracking daily, and Brand Performance weekly.
Semrush is also candid about limits. Its help page says: "AI search and LLM responses are fast-changing and highly personalized, which means no platform can provide exact numbers on visibility." It describes its metrics as "reliable directional signals". That is true of every tool in this market, ours included, and it is good to see a vendor say it.
Which assistants are covered depends on the report. The pricing page lists mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. The Prompt Tracking help page lists ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini. The data sources page names ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. Check the report you plan to use before you buy.
What the toolkit pages leave open
Some things a buyer will want to know are not answered on the pages we read. That does not mean the answer is bad. It means you should ask before you pay for a year.
- The Prompt Tracking page mentions snapshots of results, but we did not find whether the full text of every answer is kept and can be opened later.
- We did not find whether figures for questions that name your brand are reported apart from questions that do not.
- The pages list different assistants for different reports, so the coverage of the report you rely on needs checking.
- The Prompt Tracking page says "Only desktop searches are supported" for its volume and topic data, which matters if your buyers search on phones.
- The toolkit price is per domain, so a second brand or site means a second subscription or a larger bundle.
The first two questions matter most. A figure you can open and read the answer behind is one you can check. A share of answers that mixes questions with your name in them, which are usually answered with your name, can look better than it is. Every tool in this market should be asked both questions, including us.
The help centre does say what the reports are for. It describes Brand Performance as giving "actionable recommendations to refine your brand's positioning", and the site audit as flagging "potential blockers so you can ensure your site is fully accessible". So the toolkit recommends, and your team does the writing.
Suite add-on or dedicated tool: the criteria
The two kinds of tool are built for different jobs. A suite add-on puts AI visibility next to keyword and site data you may already use. A dedicated tool goes deeper on one brand's AI answers, and some go on to write the fix.
| Criterion | Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit | Dedicated tools |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | $99 a month per domain, yearly | $29 to $300 a month, or a quote |
| Prompts per brand | 25 alone, up to 200 in a bundle | From 15 to 700 on standard plans |
| Assistants | 3 to 5, depending on the report | From 3 to 13, by each tool's own count |
| Classic SEO data in the same tool | Yes, in Semrush One | Rarely |
| Shared prompt database for research | Yes, over 317 million | Some offer prompt volume scores |
| Writes the page | Not stated | Profound, AthenaHQ and Agentcites do |
| Free trial | Not for the toolkit | Most offer one, or a free tier |
The dedicated tools counted are Peec AI, Profound, OtterlyAI, Scrunch, AthenaHQ and Agentcites.
When the Semrush toolkit is the sensible choice
The suite add-on makes most sense when Semrush is already your daily tool. These are the cases where its own pages show a real advantage.
- You already pay for Semrush and want AI visibility beside your keywords without another login.
- You want to look at any competitor's AI visibility at once, without setting up tracking for them.
- You want prompt research from a large shared database before you choose what to track.
- You want an AI readiness site audit inside the same tool as your SEO site audit.
- You need 50 to 200 tracked prompts and classic rank tracking in one bundle and one bill.
When a dedicated tool is the sensible choice
A dedicated tool makes more sense when AI answers are the main job rather than one report among many. These are the cases where dedicated tools publish something the toolkit pages do not.
- You need more assistants than ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google, such as Copilot, Claude or DeepSeek.
- You need hundreds of prompts for one brand without buying an SEO bundle.
- You want the tool to draft the page that could win back a lost answer.
- You run an agency and want pitch workspaces and client logins built for that work.
- You want to try it free before you pay, which the toolkit does not offer.
Several dedicated tools publish a comparison with Semrush on their own sites. Those pages are written by competitors, like this one, so read them as a seller's case and check each claim against Semrush's own pages.
Where Agentcites sits, and what it does not do
Agentcites is a dedicated tool that writes pages, priced at $149 a month per website. It has no classic SEO data, no shared prompt database and no API, which are things Semrush offers.
It writes 50 questions from your own site and asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and DeepSeek every week. It keeps every answer word for word, so any figure opens the text behind it, and it counts questions that name you apart from questions that do not. For each loss it suggests a possible reason, and it can start an editable draft for that question, up to 50 a month. It scans weekly, not daily, and it asks fewer assistants than several tools. Our method page explains how a scan works.

Some teams will run both. The Semrush toolkit can show which topics matter across a market, and a dedicated tool can then go deep on the questions your buyers ask about you. That costs more, so it only makes sense if both halves get used.
How to decide in one week
Run the same short test on the toolkit and on one dedicated tool. A week of answers on your own questions settles more than any feature list.
- Write 15 to 25 questions a buyer would ask that do not include your brand name.
- Track them in the Semrush toolkit and in one dedicated tool, on the same assistants where you can.
- After a week, open three figures in each and read the answers behind them.
- Check which tool tells you what to do next, and whether it does that work or leaves it to you.
- Add up the real monthly cost, including extra users, add-ons and any writer you will need.
Choose the add-on if AI answers are one report among many for you, and a dedicated tool if they are the job.
Our one to one comparisons with dedicated tools, each listing where the other product is ahead, are on the compare page.
How we measured this
Everything about the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit comes from four Semrush pages: its toolkit pricing page, its SEO and AI search pricing page, and its help pages on the toolkit, on prompt tracking and on its data. Facts about dedicated tools come from each tool's own pricing page. All were read on 10 October 2026 and are linked under Sources.
We compared the two kinds of tool on seven criteria and did not name a winner, because the answer depends on whether you already use Semrush and what you need the data for. We did not buy the toolkit, so this post does not judge its accuracy. Semrush and its competitors change prices and limits often.
